Updated: Jul 23, 2023

Canada Study Updates provides a simple digest on the Canadian Higher Education landscape through an international student lens. ABC stands for Awesome, Bleak, and Comical.

Awesome 😎

Canada's population reaches 40 Million 🚀

English dictionary
Source: Statistics Canada

Stats Canada announced that as of June 16, 2023 there are now 40 million Canadians! Canada's population grew at almost twice the pace of other G7 countries from 2016 to 2021.

At this time you must remember that Canada is the second largest country in the world with 9,984,670 Square Kilometers of land with the Pacific Ocean in the west, the Atlantic Ocean in the east, the Arctic Ocean to the north.

The most important thing to note is that Canada also has an aging population causing the adult working-age population to shrink. That means Canada will need more immigrants and international students to keep the country running.

Bleak 😫

Update on the Indian students facing deportation

judge giving judgement

Around 700 international students from India are facing deportation in Canada after falling victim to fake college enrollment scam in India.

Update:

- Canada pauses immediate deportation of these students, and announces taskforce to investigate each case.

- Indian education agent who duped many of these students with fake Canadian college admission letters has been arrested in India.

Students need to careful while selecting consultants and be vigilant to not fall into scams. We have a blog on this topic: Why do you need a recognized education consultant?

Comical 😂

Alberta has a Rat Task Force!

judge giving judgement

Alberta is a western province in Canada known for its high standard of living, diverse and welcoming communities, and stunning landscapes. But not many people outside Alberta know that the province is Rat free, and people who are scary of these nasty rodents can take refuge here.

Please note that it is also illegal to own pet rats in Alberta. There are dedicated hotlines and email 310rats@gov.ab.ca to report a rat. Although, I placed this news under Comical section, the Government takes the Rats seriously as they are the most destructive vertebrate in the world causing economic losses by destroying crops and property, and transmitting diseases!
